A Message from the Principal

Sunset Families,

Sunset Elementary School was in a brief lockdown this morning before school started. We had an unknown person walk onto campus and across the playground right before student arrival. Out of an abundance of caution we alerted law enforcement and they came to the school and were able to confirm that conditions are safe. As a result, the lockdown has was lifted by 9:03 am. It is important to know that:

  • A school lockdown is most often a precautionary measure initiated to keep students safe while law enforcement officials and staff conduct an investigation of a reported threat.
  • A lockdown is not necessarily an indication that students are in harm’s way.
  • The top priority for school staff during a lockdown, or any emergency situation, is to get students into the building safely and quickly and implement our safety protocols.

We understand that these incidents can be stressful. I am proud of how all of our students, staff and families handled the situation with such grace and care this morning. Thank you for your patience and your help as we followed our protocols today and worked to keep all students and staff safe. Wishing you a restful, relaxing Spring Break.

In partnership,

LeAnn Tuupo
