Jubilee Volunteers Join "One Team" at Sunset
"One team” is the theme of the year for Sunset Elementary School fifth grade teacher Tiffany Bachman's class. It was also the theme of "Jubilee Service Day," when folks from the Sunset community dedicated time the weekend before the first day of school to help teachers and staff set up their classrooms and welcome in the new school year.
“It’s a great morale booster to know our community cares so much about our students,” said Jessica Daley, the Title 1 and reading specialist teacher at Sunset. Daley noted that the volunteers who helped out made her and other staff feel appreciated.
Principal LeAnn Tuupo highlighted a few projects that were accomplished throughout the day, such as completing student dashboard signs for the student pick-up process, putting up bulletin boards in the common areas and cutting out Sockeye fish – the school’s mascot – which students will color and use to create a Sunset Sockeye "school of fish."
Tuupo described her appreciation for the volunteers of the Sunset community: “It is wonderful to see our community coming together to create a warm and welcoming environment to kick off our school year. The volunteers that came were so generous with their time, thrilled to be in the building supporting teachers and the staff were so very grateful for the additional support completing all of the nitty gritty tasks to ensure their classroom is ready for students.”
The support of the Sunset community within and beyond the classroom exemplifies what it truly means to be a part of “one team.”
Sockeyes, we hope you've had a wonderful first two weeks of school!
