Sunset Students Step Up for Earth Day Celebration

Students perform on stage

Our Sunset students came together on April 22 to put on a fun and informational assembly to celebrate Earth Day. Fifth graders, Ashna and Michael, had the MC duties and helped to share why we celebrate earth day.

First graders from Mrs. Edwins success block class then performed a readers theatre from the Benchmark curriculum called "Earth Day Garden." The story was about students that turned an empty, dirty lot, into a beautiful garden with flowers and plants to serve the community and help the earth. Then, second graders from Mrs. Blastos' class shared information about a service project happening at Sunset that they were helping with. They were working with a company called Ridwell to collect plastic from the Sunset community that would be recycled into decking material.

All the students did a wonderful job and they were able to be courageous, which happens to be our trait of the month for April, being able to speak and act in front of the whole school. Nice work sockeyes!
